Integrated Small Business
Servers
Reliably backing-up and restoring all files, as
often as every 15 minutes
Nitix supports an integrated intelligent disk backup
(idb) system, depending on the hardware platform you deploy Nitix on. This makes
it simple and easy for any organization to make a safe copy of all its files.
There's no need to shut down the server, and there's no need to install extra
software or plug-ins. And you'll never have to worry about incremental versus
full backup sets.
Traditionally, most small to medium-sized companies have
used magnetic tape technology for data backups. Intelligent disk backups (idb)
technology is designed to provide the backup benefits of best-in-class tape
backup solutions while simultaneously eliminating the challenges that these tape
solutions have presented to companies looking for a reliable, practical and
affordable data backup solution. Protect your valuable business
information from being lost due to data corruption, power failures or human
error.
Nitix makes it simple and easy for your organization to make safe copies of
all its important business files. There's no need to install extra software or
plug-ins, and a Net Integration Technologies Approved Reselling Partner can
configure Nitix so that you will never lose more than 15 minutes of data. All of
this without any of the hassles of traditional tape backup solutions.

Benefits of Traditional Tape Backup Solutions
Challenges of Traditional Tape Backup Solutions
- As the data storage and data backup requirements of
an organization increase, acquiring an adequate tape backup solution (tape
drive and multiple pieces of tape media) can become surprisingly expensive.
- The performance of tape drives is generally much slower than the
performance of the hard disk drives that store a businesses' data. Since it
takes a relatively long time to back data up to tape, businesses typically
perform tape backups only overnight, which means that during the day data
can be lost.
- The more often a piece of tape media is used, the more likely it is that
a business will not be able to recover its data from that piece of tape
media, because the media has worn out.
- The performance and storage capacity limitations of tape technology and
the propensity of tape media to wear out have led tape drive manufacturers
to recommend that business customers carry out sophisticated daily tape
backup routines. These routines require multiple pieces of media and someone
to diligently administer the tape backup process.
- Data recovery from tape often requires multiple tapes and if any one of
the required tapes is missing or unreadable the recovery will fail.
idb - The Best Backup Solution
To provide small and medium-sized business customers
with a data backup solution that provides the benefits of tape back up
technology while alleviating the challenges, Nitix-powered servers are capable
of performing intelligent disk backups (idb).
Our idb technology uses industry standard (IDE) hard disk drives for backup
media, instead of tapes. The cost-per-megabyte of storing data on these hard
disk drives is often less than the already low cost-per-megabyte price of tape
media. The speed and capacity of idb media is the same as a hard disk drive
(because the media is a hard disk drive), which allows Nitix-powered servers to
automatically perform continuous, unadministered incremental data backups, as
often as every 15 minutes, minimizing the potential for a company to lose
un-backed up data.
Unlike tapes, idb media will not degrade the more often it is written to.
Like tapes, idb media is hot swappable so that customers can easily take idb
media offsite for extra safety. We recommend that every idb user have at least
one piece of idb media for offsite data storage.
When a new piece of idb media is placed in a Nitix-powered server, a full
backup of all the data on that server is made. As idb media is rotated, the next
data backup that idb performs is incremental to the most recent backup on the
idb media that is in the Nitix-powered server; therefore, when performing a data
recovery from idb, all the information required to complete the recovery will be
conveniently on a single piece of idb media.
Idb technology intelligently manages the data stored on an idb disk
eliminating unnecessary redundant backup information while simultaneously
ensuring that customers have as many different backups as possible to choose to
recover from. Nitix-powered servers with larger capacity idb disks will be able
to store more historical backup data.
